Project Overview

Harbor View Compact Home was designed for a narrow coastal site in Portland, Maine, where space efficiency and resilience to changing weather were key priorities. The project aimed to create a comfortable, modern home within a compact footprint while responding to the demands of a coastal urban environment.

Using Modu's modular construction system, the home delivers high-quality living spaces with reduced build time and predictable outcomes. The compact layout ensures efficient circulation while maintaining openness and natural light throughout the interior.

Design Approach

The design approach focused on maximizing usability without overcrowding the interior. Living areas were positioned to capture daylight and harbor views, while private spaces were arranged to provide privacy and protection from coastal winds.

Durable, weather-resistant materials were selected for both exterior and interior finishes to ensure long-term performance in a coastal climate. Enhanced insulation, airtight construction, and high-performance glazing support year-round comfort and energy efficiency.

All modules were built in a controlled factory environment to ensure precision and consistent quality. On-site installation was completed efficiently, minimizing disruption in a dense urban setting and reducing overall construction time.
